Work on those critical thinking skills. Everything only appears random because you never take the time to analyze why.
You get what you expect. The gang of kids know you expect little from them. Consequently, they do the minimum amount (because you expect so little, and they know it), and all appears well. But beware unintended side effects: nothing really productive happens--mainly because your level of expectation is so low.
